Newcastle United's opening Premier League fixture against Aston Villa is just around the corner, and manager Eddie Howe will be looking to field a strong side for the important clash. Based on the minutes played in pre-season so far, here is a predicted starting XI for the Magpies:
- Goalkeeper: Nick Pope
- Defenders: Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schär, Sven Botman, Dan Burn
- Midfielders: Bruno Guimarães, Joelinton, Joe Willock
- Forwards: Allan Saint-Maximin, Alexander Isak, Miguel Almirón
This predicted lineup is based on the assumption that all players are fit and available for selection. However, there are a few players who are currently carrying injuries, and their availability for the Villa game is uncertain. These players include Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, and Jonjo Shelvey.
If any of these players are ruled out of the Villa game, Howe will have to make some changes to his starting lineup. One option would be to bring in Chris Wood to replace Wilson up front, while another option would be to move Joelinton into a more advanced role and bring in Sean Longstaff or Jacob Murphy into midfield.
Ultimately, the decision of who to start against Villa will be up to Howe. However, based on the minutes played in pre-season, the predicted starting XI listed above is a good indication of the team that Howe is likely to field.
